FAQ

  • Where is Brizo currently?

Brizo is currently sailing in New Zealand, where we can arrange a viewing.

  • How did you come up with the price?

The price is based on multiple factors, including a recent survey by an expert marine surveyor (which excludes the upgrades we made to Brizo) and comprehensive research on the pricing of similar-sized performance catamarans currently on the market, including Catanas.

  • Why are you selling Brizo?

We had set a goal to sail across the Pacific Ocean, which we accomplished. Brizo is our first home together and she exceeded our expectations on both performance and comfort. We are selling now to return to land life to start a family. We plan to cruise again and are keeping our fingers crossed that Brizo (or a similar boat) will come to market when we are ready.

  • Why for sale by owner?

This allows us to extend a market-competitive price as no broker fees are involved. We bought Brizo directly through previous owners and are happy to work with the new buyer to ensure a smooth process. For serious buyers, we are happy to arrange a showing and recommend scheduling an expert marine survey prior to purchase (and for insurance). Catamaransite provides excellent sales forms, escrow & documentation experts: (https://www.catamaransite.com/catamaran-sales-forms/)

  • What is the history of Brizo?

Brizo is hull no. 19 of the 431 design and launched in December 2000. Her 1st owner fitted her to circomnavigate. She has never been chartered and always been very well cared for. We were so impressed with the upgrades, maintenance, and care the previous owners took and we strived to continue and exceed this upkeep. We hope the next owners will take similar care of Brizo.

  • What is Brizo's sailing performance?

For passage making, we plan for 8 knots average (close to 200 NM per day). We hit 240 NM on our best days. In low wind and calm seas, Brizo will match the true wind speed thanks to her tall mast. Brizo also performs very well upwind (for a cat) thanks to the daggerboards. We usually can sail at 37 AWA (Apparent Wind Angle). The Tradewind sail also allows very comfortable yet fast downwind sail. We try to avoid high winds/wave conditions but the couple times it was inevitable she performed very well and is very safe.
