Delivery day.

New year. New adventure.

On December 30th, we traveled from San Francisco, CA to La Paz, Mexico with over 400 lbs (181 kg) of luggage to prepare for our first sail on Brizo. The airline only lost 1 suitcase, of course filled with Mikael’s precious kitesurfing gear and tools, which we quickly found the next day.

Our first nights on Brizo were in Marina CostaBaja, one of the premier marinas in La Paz. We spent 2 days cleaning, organizing, preparing and getting to know Brizo. After 6 hours at Home Depot, Walmart and local grocery stores, we enjoyed a quiet New Years Eve celebration onboard - including our first meal, some Prosecco (every store was sold out of champagne) & two firework displays. On El Día de Año Nuevo (New Year’s Day) most stores were closed, so we took the opportunity to hoist Mikael up the 65ft (19m) mast for an inspection and some amazing views.

With much anticipation, finally came January 2nd - the Delivery Day - where previous owners, Damien & Beth joined us for a sail 13 nautical miles offshore.

Upon hoisting the sails, we quickly reached a speed of 9 knots with winds blowing from the north 15-20 knots. Mikael’s smile was priceless and Jenny loved feeling the breeze and playful waves. After ~5 hours of sailing, our head sail started to flap in the wind. Surprised to find out that the jib attachment broke from the halyard, we quickly dropped the sail and had to motor sail the rest of our maiden voyage. The night prior, we had placed bets on what would be the first thing to break on Brizo, let’s just say, the jib was NOT what we expected - but we are glad it happened on our first day vs. during our future Pacific crossing.

After 10 hours of sailing, we enjoyed the most beautiful sunset. Here’s to a new year of adventure, fair winds, and following seas.

When your life is moving too fast and you find yourself in chaos, introduce yourself to each color of the sunset.
